The UNAIDS’ new report titled ‘Financial Resources Required to Achieve Universal Access to HIV Prevention, Treatment, Care and Support’, says that for achieving the goal of providing universal access to comprehensive HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, care and support by 2010, there is requirement of a dramatic and urgent scale-up of efforts.
As part of a UN programme for tackling poverty in rural Africa, 79 villages across 10 African countries will be hooked up to cellular networks. Around half a million people, described by the UN as “the poorest of the poor”, are expected to make mobile calls soon.
The International Health Partnership aims to improve the way that international agencies, donors and poor countries work together to develop and implement health plans, creating and improving health services for poor people and ultimately saving more lives.
