India to have online process for clinical trials by 2013 In order to improve the process of clinical trail approvals, […]
In order to improve the process of clinical trail approvals, the Government of India is planning to introduce e-Governance project for clinical trails by 2013. this movement will enable companies from any part of the world to file online applications to seek approval for clinical trials from the drug controller general of India (DCGI).
The Government of India has launched the Health Management Information System (HMIS) portal to convert local health data into real time useful information, management indicators and trends which could be displayed graphically in the reports.

The Common Service Centres are ICT-enabled Kiosks having a PC along with basic support equipment like Printer, Scanner, UPS, with Wireless Connectivity as the backbone and additional equipment for edutainment, telemedicine, projection systems, etc.
ISIC has recently signed a contract with Akhil Systems Pvt. Ltd., New Delhi for replacement of their existing HIS System.

Telemedicine is defined as the use of electronic Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to provide and support health care when distance separates the participants.
Chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad recently invited Indian corporate healthcare giants to construct hospitals in rural areas, and offered them land to be provided free by the government. The CM vowed to strengthen peripheral health institutions of state and lessen the patient burden on tertiary hospitals in the city.
Government of India has extended a five-year tax holiday, currently given only to hospitals in the rural areas, to those across the country, sending the shares of healthcare providers higher.

The medical equipment market in India is growing at an annual rate of 15% and is expected to touch US$ 4.98 billion by 2012. With a highly unregulated environment in terms of quality, reliability, pricing and control, uncertainty rules the roost. Often, it�s a confusing maze for care providers and medical professionals, and the brunt of all this has to be borne solely by those at the end of the chain – �the patients� !
There is a dire need for a legal framework and a regulatory agency to look after the industry. How far have we reached? Is the Government taking the right steps? eHEALTH takes stock of the matter.
