Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday laid the foundation stone for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Bilaspur in Himachal Pradesh.

The 750-bed hospital will be built at a cost of approximately Rs 1350 crore. It will include Emergency Trauma beds, AYUSH beds and Private beds along with ICU Speciality & Super Specialty beds.

The hospital will also function as the medical college and will provide medical education at the undergraduate and postgraduate level, besides nursing.

Acharya Devvrat, Governor, Himachal Pradesh; J.P. Nadda, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare; Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh; and other dignitaries were present at the event. Gyanesh Pandey, CMD, HSCC briefed the Prime Minister and other dignitaries about the project.

The establishment of new AIIMS under Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) aims at providing affordable and reliable tertiary level healthcare in the country in general and to augment facilities for quality medical education  in various states.
