Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reinforced the state’s commitment to equitable and technology-driven healthcare while inaugurating the newly opened Medanta Super Specialty Hospital in Noida’s Sector 50. Addressing healthcare leaders and industry stakeholders, he emphasised that every citizen — particularly the poorest — has an equal right to quality healthcare, a principle driving the state’s ongoing health reforms.
The inauguration was attended by key dignitaries, including Dr. Naresh Trehan, Chairman & MD, Medanta; Brijesh Singh, District In-Charge Minister; Noida MLA Pankaj Singh; and Noida BJP President, Mahesh Chauhan.
Ayushman Bharat Driving Access for the Most Vulnerable
The Chief Minister underlined how flagship national schemes have transformed access to care for low-income families. He noted that Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has emerged as the world’s largest publicly funded health assurance programme, providing ₹5 lakh annual coverage for over 10.74 crore vulnerable families — nearly 50 crore beneficiaries.
He highlighted that Uttar Pradesh has significantly expanded the scheme’s reach within the state, ensuring ease of treatment for people who earlier struggled to access even basic care. For those still outside the scheme’s coverage, the Chief Minister said the state contributed ₹1,300 crore from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund in a single year to support critical treatments.
“One District, One Medical College”: UP’s New Identity
In a pointed contrast to past perceptions, the Chief Minister said Uttar Pradesh has moved from being known for “one district, one mafia” to being recognised for “one district, one medical college.”
He noted that the state’s strong focus on expanding medical education and infrastructure is reshaping the healthcare landscape. The government has prioritised rapid commissioning of medical colleges, large speciality hospitals, and district-level health upgrades.
Ease-of-Doing-Business Reforms Boost Healthcare Investment
Adityanath referenced recent regulatory reforms aimed at enabling the smoother establishment of hospitals and health facilities. One such change — reducing the mandatory road-width requirement for hospitals from 18 metres to 7 metres — has already accelerated private sector participation in healthcare expansion across urban and semi-urban zones.
AI at the Core of Future Healthcare Delivery
The Chief Minister emphasised that artificial intelligence must become a central driver of next-generation healthcare services, particularly in diagnostics, decision support, and operational efficiency.
He shared that significant work is already underway at Uttar Pradesh’s leading technology and research institutions. “The Centre of Excellence at IIT Kanpur is building advanced capabilities in AI for healthcare,” he said, urging hospitals and healthcare enterprises to intensify adoption.
Past Public Health Successes Strengthen Future Readiness
Reflecting on UP’s fight against encephalitis — which claimed nearly 50,000 children over four decades in the Gorakhpur region — he noted that a targeted, coordinated governance campaign enabled the state to bring the disease under control within two years of the current government assuming office.
This experience, he said, has strengthened UP’s capacity to respond quickly to public health challenges, as seen during the COVID-19 pandemic with the rapid scaling of oxygen supply, ventilators, and medicines.
UP’s Growing Healthcare Network
Adityanath said large hospitals play an essential role not just in improving patient care but also in job creation and regional development. He encouraged Medanta to consider expanding further into eastern Uttar Pradesh, where demand for advanced care services continues to rise.
Following the event, the Chief Minister conducted an on-site inspection of the upcoming Noida International Airport in Jewar, noting that a world-class airport and expanding healthcare network together signal Uttar Pradesh’s growing economic and infrastructural momentum.
A Health System Designed for the Future
With expanding medical infrastructure, renewed investment in digital health, and strong backing for public health insurance, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself as a leading state in inclusive and tech-enabled healthcare delivery.
As CM Yogi Adityanath reiterated, the mission is clear:
“To ensure that no citizen — regardless of income or location — is left behind in accessing quality healthcare.”
