Union Minister of State in the PMO Dr Jitendra Singh on Friday said evading tax will become impossible once the Goods and Services Tax (GST) becomes effective across the country.

Speaking during the 7th Elets Healthcare Leaders Forum in the national capital, Dr Singh, the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region and MoS Prime Minister Office, said: “Tax evasion will not be possible after 1st July, once GST comes into force.”

Talking about the expected change in general, Dr Singh said: “The behavioral change will surely come after GST implementation.”

GST, which is a single indirect tax system for the whole nation, is expected to make the country a unified common market. It is a single tax on the supply of goods and services, from manufacturer to the consumer.

It maybe noted that credits of input taxes paid at each stage will be available in the subsequent stage of value addition, which makes GST essentially a tax only on value addition at each stage. The last consumer will thus have to bear only the GST charged by the last dealer in the supply chain, with set-off benefits at all the previous stages.

Remarking about the prevailing state of affairs in healthcare in the country, he said: “Urban patients get over-treated and rural patients are under-treated.”

Meanwhile, giving a call for the need to have life-long healthcare facilities, Dr Singh said: “India has today moved from communicable to non-communicable diseases which calls for life-long healthcare facilities.”
