The state government of New South Wales, Australia, is planning to abolish eight area health services and set up 17 hospital networks in their place. According to the plans released by the state government, there will be eight networks in the Greater Sydney metropolitan area and seven regional networks. Two statewide specialist networks for children’s health and forensic mental health are also planned.Administration of the hospital networks will be taken up by a chief utive and a governing council consisting of local clinicians and individuals with financial and business backgrounds.
