Medical practitioners and NGOs have joined hands for safeguarding the patients rights. For this the Federation of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (FOGSI) and Indian Medical Association (IMA), have collaborated with NGOs like Rugna Hakka Samiti (RHS) and Jan Aarogya Abhiyan (JAA) to form district grievance cells to protect patients’ rights.  The gynaecologist Sanjay Gupte, newly-installed national president of FOGSI said that doctor-patient relation has to be healthy if patients are to get good care and doctors are to work satisfactorily.

The aim is to replicate the idea across the country. There is need of a system to ensure observance of patients’ rights and responsibilities.  For this a district cell to address grievances of patients will be formed at district level. It will be constituted of people from various walks of life, including relatives of patients who has registered his grievance with the cell.
