If you’re nursing a sick person at home and don’t have enough time to take him/her to the hospital, then dial Dr Home, who will arrive at your residence in a few minutes in a fully-equipped van. The concept, loosely based on the lines of calling a grocery man or a laundry man to your place, has gained popularity among residents of Noida and Gaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, India, since its inception in July this year. The brain-child of Dr Roma Sachdeva and her associates, Dr Home Healthcare caters to the needs of those people who can’t manage to go to hospitals or clinics, since the waiting time there is too long and taxing. “There are many elderly patients, namely senior citizens, who are dependent on their children or their relatives to take them to medical centres. Since they [elderly patients] cannot go on their own Dr Home comes as a saviour to them,” says Dr Sachdeva in a telephone interview with XPRESS. According to her, the human mind plays a big role in response to any disease and treatment taken by a person when he is sick. “The home is the most comfortable and reassuring place for any sick person, since the best possible treatment can be given without the botheration of going and/or waiting in long queues in the hospital lobby,” says Dr Sachdeva. Dr Home Healthcare has mobile vans which are fully equipped with equipment such as EGC, X-ray machines, oxygen ventilator and other check-up facilities. “It is a unique concept for those who find it difficult to move their loved ones to hospitals in times of crisis,” says Dr Sachdeva, adding that most of the sick patients are home-bound since they need constant monitoring of medicines. Dr Home Healthcare was launched after careful planning and scrutinising the guidelines laid down by the Indian government. “Since this concept is the first of its kind in India, we had to take permission from local authorities so as not to breach any law,” says Dr Sachdeva. The mobile clinic provides the best available treatment for patients in normal sickness within minutes of a phone call. Any major complications are immediately referred to the nearby hospital for further treatment. The team has four dedicated doctors and nurses, while additional staff of 10 to 15 people is pooled when and where required. Dr Sachdeva plans to increase the services of Dr Home Healthcare to the adjoining areas of Nodia too. “In a couple of months, we plan to expand it to Delhi and its surrounding areas
