Pic 2With experience and expertise of performing over 600 liver transplants at its hospitals in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai, the Global Hospitals Group has unveiled the Institute of Liver diseases, HPB surgery and transplantation in Mumbai.  The multi-super-specialty tertiary care hospital by employing advanced technical infrastructure facilities aims to deliver success in complex surgeries and multi-organ transplantations.

Commenting on the recent initiative, Dr K Ravindranath, Chairman and Managing Director of Global Hospitals Group said, We constantly innovate pioneer path-breaking healthcare services that are revolutionary and advanced; to cater to the healthcare needs of the diverse and ever evolving populace.


Marking another operational benchmark, the state-of-the-art Mumbai Hospital Facility located at Parel also performed their first successful liver transplant surgery by the renowned Liver Transplant Surgeon & Director of the Groups HPB Surgery & Liver Transplant Program Prof Mohamed Rela.  Nikunj Kapadia,a 67 year old businessman from Mumbai became the first patient to get a new lease of life through Liver Transplant at Global Hospitals Mumbai.

The Group also stated that India is a home to 11% of the worlds people with chronic Hepatitis B and the number of deaths due to Liver cancer or cirrhosis each year is ranging between 100,000 and 200,000. In addition, about two lakh people were diagnosed with end stage liver disease per year and about 0.02% population (2500) requires Liver transplant per year.  The situation hence demands for full-dedication, effective technologies and infrastructure and awareness among the citizens, opined Prof Rela. Considering the prent situation, the Group anticipates to complete 300 Liver transplants by the end of the current year, and particularly 40 Liver transplants only among the children population.
