Honble Minister of State for External Affairs, Smt. Preneet Kaur bids an affectionate farewell to the Tanzanian patients

Fortis Escorts Heart Institute (FEHI), a pioneer in the field of cardiac care in the country successfully conducted cardiac treatment for 17 Tanzania patients from Africa who came as part of the joint sponsorship of Lions Club of Dar-Es-Salaam, Regency Medical Centre and Health Ministry of Zanzibar.  A team of doctors led by Dr. Iyer, utive Director, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery, Dr. Rajesh  Sharma, Director, Pediatric Cardiac Surgery and Dr. Ashutosh Marwah, Senior Consultant, Pediatric Cardiologist were instrumental in giving a new lease of life to these patients.Honble Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India, Smt. Preneet Kaur was the Chief Guest at this heartwarming farewell meet, along with the Ambassador of Tanzania in India.

Bidding a fond farewell to the patients, Dr. Iyer, Dr. Rajesh Sharma and Dr. Ashutosh Marwah, said, Each case was unique and all patients have shown signs of speedy recovery. Notable among the cases include, a two year old child named Dhulkhulaifat Salum who was treated from Achalasia Cardia.  Salum weighed a mere 4 kgs when he came to us. He had a hairline thin food-pipe and could barely intake anything, except liquid diet. After an intensive three month treatment which involved balloon angioplasty, Salim now weighs 8 kgs and will be able to live and eat like a normal child.Another patient, Mrs. Mbama Zuber Kashima,a woman from Massai tribe was among this group for the first time. She was treated for a Mitral valve replacement, a cardiac surgical procedure in which the mitral valve is replaced by bioprosthetic valve. She too is progressing well.
