Gearing up to meet high standards of safety in blood transfusion, the Government has approved providing the four major metros with blood banks, which would also be centres of excellence for transfusion medicine.
India is considering a proposal to hike costs of obtaining blood via tranfusion by up to 70% as part of a plan to revise service charges to help pay for more advanced testing and storage of blood.
The Government of India has announced that it would set up state of the art blood banks in 600 districts across the country and a model blood bank in all the states within next two to three years.
