Union Minister for Social Justice and  Empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot inaugurated a new production facility at Kanpur that will make affordable lower limb prosthetic systems soon.

Under the ‘Make In India’ initiative, Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) inked the Transfer of Technology and Technical & Consultancy Services agreement with multinational company Ottobock for mass manufacturing of lower limb prosthetic systems for Persons with Disabilities in the country at affordable price, a statement said.


“The new production unit ALIMCO will be able to produce technologically advanced prosthetic system which will improve the independence and mobility of lower limbs amputees from all section of society in the country,” the minister stated.

ALIMCO functions under the aegis of Department Of Empowerment Of Person with Disability, Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

Gehlot distributed artificial limbs and aids to 692 pre-identified beneficiaries with different kind of disabilities.
