Now halls of Memorial Health System of East Texas will witness a new robot doctor roaming about, saving precious in the treatment and diagnosis of stroke victims. About 5ft 2 incheson four wheels, “RP-7” is a wireless “remote presence robot” allowing a physician to be in two places at once. MHSET’s RP-7 is one of only 250 worldwide. It is an InTouch Health creation that allows doctors to be at two places at one time. Methodist Hosptial in Houston in partnership with MHSET will have the power of ‘ beaming’ into the Lufkin hospital and enabling doctors from former hospital effectively providing quicker and complete care, according to InTouch Health.

The RP-7 will also allow Lufkin patients to become familiar with Houston doctors, preventing them from feeling unsure or out of place in the event of a transfer. Seen as extenuation of ‘telemedicine,’ RP-7’s involvement is comparable to he transfer of medical information via telephone, Internet or other networks to serve a clinical purpose, according to Maria Gonzales, InTouch Health account manager. It can even transmit real-time images of patients to the doctors, to help doctors detect visible stroke symptoms. Any patient information downloaded to the robot is erased between visits in accordance with privacy laws.
