The Indian Railways has decided to expand telemedicine network across the country. Currently, the facility is available in 18 places including Rangia, Badarpur, Guwahati, Sonpur, Ratlam, Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Vadodara and Rajkot.

Soon, the telemedicine facility will be accessible in about 20 more places in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Oriss a, Karnataka and Goa. Implemented by Konkan Railway, telemedicine project is the use of electronic communication and information technologies to provide health care when distance separates medical specialists from the patient. It also includes educational use of these techno logies such as distance learning of health subjects. Though rail connectivity has been established in far-flung and remote areas, proper medical facilities have not reached these areas yet. In oder to bring specialist care to the doorstep of the railway beneficiary stationed at distant centres, it has been decided that telemedicine facility should be made available in all the zonal railways at various levels in a phased manner.
