The Government-run Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) is planning to extend its telemedicine project with Bandra-based Lilavati hospital. ONGC is also planning to incorporate the project to cover all the rigs and platforms at Bombay High Offshore.
The piloted telemedicine project will provide medical care to over 100 personnel present on a platform and another 80 at the rig at any given time. According to Dr R H Kewalramani, general manager of ONGC, Mumbai, there is a plan to tie-up with Nanavati Hospital also. Other hospitals may also be included subsequently. ONGC is yet to finalise the agency through which the satellite link-up will now be extended to all the rigs. Personnel are posted offshore for 14 days at a stretch, said the ONGC officials, and are prone to all kinds of ailments
