IIT Bombay Develops One-Drop, Low-Cost Blood Test to Screen for Anaemia and Sickle Cell Disease

IIT Bombay researchers have built a low-cost, automated blood-smear test that uses how far a single drop of blood spreads on a slide to flag severe anaemia and sickle cell disease, with ~95% accuracy in field trials; licensed to startup Rheoheme, it is headed for regulatory approval with AIIMS Nagpur and ICMR-NITHR Jabalpur.
