Telemedicine can bridge the existing divide in terms of healthcare between the urban and rural India.

In developed countries, telecare is emerging as a strategic enabler for the provision of independent living to older people in their own homes, driven by demographics and new technologies.
The Indian Government has sanctioned INR 25-30 million to the states governments of West Bengal(WB) and Tripura to set up telemedicine zones in these two states.
Telemedicine service started about eight years ago in India as pilot basis. Now it has taken matured Major hospitals are expanding their telemedicine centres in India as well as in neighbouring countries.
The Turkish Ministry of Health will initiate “Tele-Medicine Practice” which will enable digital transfer and examination of ultrasound, pathology and radiology data.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will offer $128 million in loans and grants for telemedicine and distance learning in 2007.

The Federal Government (FG) of Nigeria said that telemedicine network would link the University College Hospitals (UCH), Ibadan, with other six primary health centres in Nigeria.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia (BCBSGa) has been awarded a $489,085.00 USDA Rural Development grant. This grant would be used to expand access to quality specialty health care for rural Georgians through BCBSGa’s telemedicine program.
The Centre will connect all the Community Health Centres (CHCs) of Pune (India) district with super-specialty hospitals through telemedicine and tele-counseling. The project would be modeled on the lines of Baramati-based Grameen Rugnalaya Centre.
Oklahoma State University Center for Health Sciences Telemedicine Center (OSU) of United States (US) has selected Spacenet Inc to provide satellite network services for its new mobile telemedicine clinic.
