The Indian Government has sanctioned INR 25-30 million to the states governments of West Bengal(WB) and Tripura to set up telemedicine zones in these two states. This initiative will help people in the remote villages to avail specialised treatment from Kolkata on a cost-effective basis. T he aim of the project is to connect remote hospitals to the cities state-of-the-art hospitals. Government is planning to connect the entire network through Linux-based or open source software (OSS).est Bengal Electronics Industry Development Corporation Limited (WEBEL) has already connected the 277 gram panchayats of the Burdwan district under e-Governance initiatives. Till date, government is already connected Coochbehar, Habra, Arambagh, Purulia, Raiganj, Baharampur to the city hospitals like School of Tropical Medicine, Nil Ratan Sarkar Hospital, Burdwan Medical College, Calcutta Medical College. Under this service, the government will provide video conferencing for proper diagnosis of patients.
