Private equity and venture capital (PE/VC) investment in India’s healthcare sector rose 621% year on year to $3.1 billion in the July–September 2026 quarter, according to the EY-IVCA monthly PE/VC roundup released on 30 October 2026. Healthcare was the second-largest sector by value, behind only infrastructure, and closed 28 deals in the quarter.

The jump is even sharper against the previous quarter: healthcare PE/VC investment was up 878% from April–June 2026. Much of that came from one cheque, KKR’s $1.4 billion acquisition of Medicover India, which EY ranked as the largest PE/VC deal across all sectors in the quarter. eHealth had tracked the big healthcare investment and leadership moves reshaping the sector earlier this year.

Healthcare PE/VC investment in Q3 2026 at a glance

  • Total healthcare PE/VC investment: $3.1 billion, up 621% year on year and 878% quarter on quarter.
  • Deal count: 28 in Q3 2026, against 19 in Q2 2026.
  • Monthly deals: six in July, eight in August and 11 in September.

How healthcare compares with other sectors

Across all sectors, PE/VC investment in India reached $17.1 billion in Q3 2026 over 348 deals, a 46% year-on-year increase, EY said. Infrastructure led with $7.2 billion, followed by healthcare at $3.1 billion and real estate at $1.4 billion. Together the three sectors took 69% of the quarter’s money.

Healthcare also showed up on the exit side. Investors realised $1.4 billion from healthcare exits in the quarter, the third-highest exit value after financial services and e-commerce. Since 2021, healthcare has ranked fifth among sectors for PE/VC-backed IPO exits, a route recently tested by plans such as Paras Healthcare’s ₹7,500 crore IPO valuation.

What it means for hospitals and healthtech

The headline figure is driven by large hospital buyouts, but early-stage digital health is still drawing capital. In recent weeks Pune-based Clinics On Cloud raised a ₹120 crore Series A for AI-enabled health ATMs. Bengaluru’s clinical AI start-up O-Health raised funding for edge AI clinical models. Mumbai-based clinic software firm Docterz also raised ₹5 crore, mostly from doctors who use its platform.

EY expects investors to stay careful. “Going forward, we expect PE/VC investors to remain cautious and selective and prioritise resilience of future profitability and return on capital,” said Vivek Soni, Partner and National Leader, Private Equity Services, EY India, pointing to inflation, high crude oil prices and the Reserve Bank of India’s recent repo rate hike. For hospital groups and healthtech firms, that points to money flowing towards businesses with clear earnings and scale rather than growth at any cost.
