
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) held an urgent meeting to discuss the increasing numbers of covid patients and the various steps to curb them.
As per the figures shared by the state government, 1,648 new Covid-19 cases, 918 recoveries and 17 deaths have been registered till Monday. The active Covid-19 cases in the state stands at 9,813. Maharashtra’s Omicron tally has also surged to 141 with the addition of 31 new cases today.

In a bid to control the spread of the virus, the BMC has decided to do genome sequencing of each and every patient to ascertain that the increasing number of patients is not due to Omicron. Also BMC has hinted to take strict action against violators of the Covid appropriate behaviour if the cases are seen to be increasing. Re-opening of offices, establishments etc along with foreign travelers entering the city for Christmas and New Year are being termed as causes for the increase in the number of cases. This is despite imposition of section 144. People also seen to be are moving out in public places without maskss. In order to curtail the spread of the covid-19 and control the increasing numbers of patients, BMC has ordered that no party will be allowed for New Year.

While talking to reporters, BMC’s Additional Municipal Corporation’s (AMC), Suresh Kakani said, that “More than 9 lakh citizens in the age group of 15-18 years are in Mumbai. Vaccines will be given to children from the age group 15-18 years at vaccination centers. There are more than 3 lakh health care workers and 10 lakh senior citizens who will be taking booster doses from 10 january. We are prepared as we have activated all our jumbo Covid centers and all our vaccination centers are open. We will act as per the guidance of the Center for vaccinating the booster dose for health workers and senior citizens and also with the vaccination drive for children between age of 15 to 18”, added Kakani.
