The number of Omicron cases in the country touched 578 with Manipur in the north-eastern part of the country reporting its first case. 6,531 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the country and 315 deaths in the last 24 hours. The active caseload currently stands at 75,841, while the recovery rate stands at 98.40 per cent.
Amidst this surge, the Centre has issued a fresh advisory to all states and union territories to deal with the pandemic situation. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla in the advisory has said that states and union territories may consider imposing need based, local curbs and restrictions, to control the crowd during the ongoing festive season.
MHA has issued orders to all Chief Secretaries in the states and UTs stressing “the need for greater foresight, data analysis, dynamic decision making, and strict and prompt containment actions at the local and district levels,” in view of the current Covid situation. The Union Health Ministry has asked states to ensure stringent implementation of Covid-19 protocols and urged citizens to not lower their guard, especially during the festive season.
