Covid-19 booster

The union cabinet on July 13 approved free covid booster doses for all adults. It will be available at all Central government-run vaccination centres, starting from July 15, stated an official government release.

The free doses will be available for 75 days as India embarks on 75 years of Independence, ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.’

“The booster shots of the coronavirus vaccine will be dispensed free of cost at public healthcare facilities, although the doses received at private centres will continue to be paid for”, stated Anurag Singh, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports.

It is notable that the gap between the second and third (booster) doses of the Covid-19 vaccine was reduced to 6 months from the earlier gap of 9 months early this month.

The oversight of the precaution dose was already available free of cost to beneficiaries aged 60 years and above, healthcare workers, and frontline workers.
