In a landmark collaboration aimed at strengthening Africa’s healthcare resilience and vaccine self-sufficiency, Indian biotech company TechInvention has signed an agreement with Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health. This partnership aligns with Ethiopia’s vision under the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and the Partnership for African Vaccine Manufacturing (PAVM), which focus on building robust healthcare systems and enhancing pandemic preparedness across the continent.

As part of this initiative, TechInvention will provide end-to-end technical and strategic support for the vaccine manufacturing project. The scope of their involvement includes:

  • Updating the project’s feasibility study.
  • Designing the manufacturing facility.
  • Conducting geotechnical investigations and assessing environmental and social impacts.
  • Creating detailed technical specifications.
  • Preparing tender documents for contractor selection.
  • Developing a bill of quantities.
  • Guiding the selection, acquisition, and transfer of product and process technologies.

Additionally, TechInvention will serve as an advisory partner, assisting Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health and other stakeholders in executing the project. Their expertise will ensure that the new vaccine manufacturing facility adheres to international quality standards and establishes Ethiopia as a key player in Africa’s vaccine production landscape.

The official signing ceremony took place in Addis Ababa, with Ethiopia’s Minister of Health, H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba, and TechInvention’s Director and CEO, Syed Ahmed, formalizing the agreement.

Strategic Importance of Local Vaccine Production

Speaking at the event, H.E. Dr. Mekdes Daba emphasized the critical need for local vaccine production. She remarked:

“Producing vaccines locally is a key priority for ensuring the health of our population and for pandemic preparedness. This agreement signifies a major step for Ethiopia to produce vaccines locally, meeting not only international quality standards but also positioning Ethiopia as a supplier of vaccines to Africa and beyond. Preparations are already underway to begin construction and manufacturing in the coming months.”
