BLK Super Speciality Hospital has announced that the high-end Fibroscan facility is available in the hospital starting September onwards. This is good news for many who were suspected of liver fibrosis and fatty liver yet wanted to escape the painful procedure of liver biopsy. Fibroscan is useful in early detection of liver diseases.

The Fibroscan technique is used to quantify hepatic fibrosis and fatty infiltration of liver (fatty liver) in a totally non-invasive manner “ a painless alternative for liver biopsy. Fibroscan technology allows accurate assessment of liver fibrosis and fatty liver resulting from all pathologies including metabolic syndrome and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, chronic viral hepatitis, diabetes, obesity and alcohol intake, says Dr JC Vij, Director & HOD “ Centre for Digestive and Liver Diseases, BLK SSH.

In the early stages of liver disease symptoms are virtually non-existent, and liver function tests and conventional ultrasound have a poor predictive value in assessing fibrosis. The Fibroscan is an ideal diagnostic and accurate tool for a physicians and hepatologists for early detection of liver disease. It can monitor the progression or regression of an individuals liver disease. This allows treatment to be tailored to the individuals need. Being a noninvasive procedure it can be repeated without any risk of complications, Dr Vij further added.

The hospital continuously upgrades its facilities to provide holistic and seamless services to its patients. The Fibroscan services is another addition to the hospitals world-class infrastructure which includes Cyberknife VSI – Asia Pacific’s first whole body robotic radio-surgery system for treatment of inoperable tumors; latest generation PET CT Scan machine; A TriologyTx Linear Accelerator amongst others
