senior citizen

Joint secretary medical and health department, directed to lower the age bar for senior citizens from 65 to 60 years to avail free healthcare facilities and free diagnostic tests in government-run district hospitals, community and primary health centres but not at hospitals attached to medical colleges in Jaipur.

Hospitals attached to medical colleges like Sawai Man Singh hospital, which comes under medical education, is providing benefits to senior citizens 65 years old and above.  Hospitals attached to medical colleges provide costly diagnostic tests, including CT-scan, MRI and angiography to senior citizens. These diagnostic tests are not among the 71 tests which are being provided free of cost to any person under free diagnostic test scheme.

However, in government-run district hospitals, a person at 60 or above will now be considered senior citizen but since the facilities in the district hospitals are limited, he/she cannot avail the same benefits like those above 65 in hospitals attached to medical colleges.
