Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav has launched the state governments emergency medical transportation service by dialing 108 and said the ambulance service would be made available to people free of any charges.
After launching the Samajwadi Swasthya Seva, the chief minister spoke to the man on duty and handed over the keys of an ambulance to a driver. Under the programme, ambulances would be provided in about 20 minutes for emergency services.
The chief minister also flagged some of the ambulances. These included 133 ambulances for the emergency services and 240 others for the Samajwadi Swastha Seva.
First phase to cover 13 districts
A 100-seater call centre has been launched to run the 108 service. Thirteen districts covered under the 108 service in the first phase are Lucknow, Mainpuri, Etawah, Kannauj, Saharanpur, Meerut, Rampur, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, Sambhal, Shamli, Baghpat and Ambedkar Nagar. By the next month, 972 ambulances will reach covering all 820 development blocks.
