Thirty-two-year old, Anita (name changed) is like any other working woman striving to find a balance between her personal and professional life. One look at her may not reflect the trauma that she is reeling under.
Anita is suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease and is on dialysis for the last two years. While visiting the hospital for dialysis has become a routine part of her lifestyle, Anita has been waiting for a donor for a long time to resurrect her life.
Patients with similar stories were a part of a unique doctor-patient programme that was organized by Columbia Asia Hospital, Yeshwanthpur. The programme aimed at bringing awareness among people about kidney and related diseases.
Over 300 kidney patients including those who have undergone transplant and those who are undergoing dialysis were part of this programme, along with eminent doctors including Dr. Ajit Huilgol, Consultant-Chief Transplant Surgeon and Dr Sankaran Sundar, Chief of Nephrology from Columbia Asia Hospital. Patients shared a first-hand account of their experience in dealing with this disease.

The objective of this event was to educate people on kidney disease and its complications, and to help them lead an uncompromised life while dealing with the disease. A programme like this gives patients the perfect platform to interact with one another and share their experiences especially post transplant.
Columbia Asia Hospitals Pvt. Ltd. is one of the first healthcare companies to enter the country through 100% foreign direct investment (FDI) route.
