US medical device makers could face disruptions to their sales following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last week, Deutsche Bank has warned. Edwards Life sciences Corporation, Boston Scientific and St Jude Medical are among the medical device makers with most exposure in Japan, its report noted. Heart-valve manufacturer Edwards generates 17 percent of its sales in the country, where it has an office and distribution operation. Boston Scientific generates 12 percent of its sales in Japan, while St Jude’s generates 11 percent. Stryker Corporation and Becton Dickinson generate 10 percent and 6 percent of their sales respectively. Becton Dickinson’s syringe manufacturing facility in Fukushima has been temporarily closed in light of the damage of the area’s nuclear power complex, which was caused by the earthquake. Other device makers with significant sales in Japan include Zimmer Holdings (9 percent), Covidien (8 percent), Baxter International (7 percent), Medtronic (6 percent) and CR Bard (5 percent).
