Tanda medical college to offer treatment soon

In the next two years, Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda, will start offering medical treatment, bringing major relief to the people of lower Himachal.Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Gulam Nabi Azad is scheduled to lay the foundation stone for the Rs 150 crore super-specialty hospital at RPMC under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Surksha Yojna, along with Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal. The hospital would have facilities of treatment in cardio-thoracic vascular surgery (CTVS), neuro-surgery, nephrology, oncology, cardiology and neurology, said Health Minister Rajeev Bindal.While the Centre would contribute Rs 125 crore to the project, the state would invest Rs 25 crore and also appoint specialist doctors. The contract for construction of the super-specialty hospital has been awarded to Hospital Consultancy Services, a PSU of the government of India. The Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, is the only other government medical college in the state to offer treatment facilities under super-speciality category. However, people from Kangra, Chamba and Una have to travel a long distance to reach here.
