Many parents of autistic children don’tunderstand the syptoms of autism in the children. They remember realizing some behaviors were “off,” but they say, they didn’t know what to do about it.  Nowadays one in every 150 kids is diagnosed with autism, thus doctors in Florida are trying to change that for parents across the United States. Many children don’t show the three classic “autistic” mannerisms doctors look for: name-recognition, smiling and eye contact, so when they are very little, the pediatricians don’t realize that the child suffers from the developmental disorder. Since early intervention is the key to success with autistic kids, many parents end up wishing they had known what to look for earlier. Repetitive behaviors like spinning objects, are also symptoms. Many parents suspect something going on with their child even before they voice those concerns to their pediatrician or before the pediatrician recognizes those signs. Keeping this in mind a team of doctors has created a 21st-century “instruction manual” for how to deal with autism in children. It’s an online video that aims to teach parents about all the symptoms of autism by comparing real-life autistic kids with typical children. Giving families and professionals more examples of what it may look like under two years of age is going to be extremely helpful to identify this problem in kids.
