Space Hospitals, a Chennai based company in India has got involved in an extention activity of providing medical care to rural areas. Accordingly it has linked 13 super speciality hospitals with 60 of its satellite medical centres, inter connecting, various parts of the country. Through a telemedicine facility provided by Space group, a doctor in a rural area can share medical information with a specialist in any of the 13 hospitals to improve detection and treatment. The group has also planned to expand its operations many fold within three years and aims at setting up 5,000 remote telemedicine centres and 2,000 SMCS. Currently, the super-speciality hospitals group includes the Madras Medical Mission, MOTS, Goodwill Hospitals and KG Hospitals in Tamil Nadu, and they have been linked with the SMCs set up by the company for ‘Providing Urban Amenities in Rural Areas’ (PURA).
