Sioux Falls-based Avera Health will get two hefty federal grants for expanding its efforts in telemedicine.

Avera recently received $453,469 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s rural development programme. That money will be used to boost the use of telecommunications, computer networks and related technology in rural communities. Another grant worth $310,000 from the Department of Health and Human Service’s telehealth resource centre will be provided for visual displays for health care centres. The finance will also be used to establish a five-state regional telehealth resource and assistance centre named as the Great Plains TRAC.
