LUNGX

In 2013 the focus of the day is Imaging in Lung Disease The purpose of the International Day of Radiology (IDoR) is to build greater awareness of the value that radiological research, diagnosis and treatment can contribute to safe patient care. It also seeks to build greater appreciation of the vital role radiologists perform in the healthcare continuum.

On this day a CME and commemorative session was also organised by the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association (IRIA).

Dr. Rakesh Mathur, Medical Director and Chief of Radiology, delivered a lecture on Imaging in Lung Diseases to the doctors of Saket City Hospital. He emphasized the role of imaging in management of lung nodules. In practical terms it translates into a more rational approach to small lung nodules which till now were considered potentially malignant and removed at surgery. Research has shown that a vast majority of lung nodules so removed are actually benign and imaging can play a vital role if they are closely followed up by CT and PET for any change in size or character. It also helps in a multitude of Image guided procedures to obtain material for Biopsy (FNAC). He stressed on the importance of preventive healthcare and routine check-ups for early detection of cancer when effective treatment is possible.

Dr. Mathur also highlighted the fact that Imaging plays a vital role in the management and treatment of practically all other lung disease like TB, COPD, Pneumonia, Emphysema, ILD.

The availability of state-of-the art equipment at the hospital is instrumental in the fight against lung diseases. The hospital has a Radiology unit which is well equipped with ultramodern technology and promises exceptional quality scanning and imaging. The unit is endowed with first of its kind machines like widebore 3T MRI Scanner (Ingenia Philips) providing a wide range of diagnostic options in a patient-friendly setting. A 256slice/sec CT scanner (iCT Philips) is the mainstay for high quality Lung Imaging. It also provides exceptional quality angiograms of the coronary arteries now a well-established procedure for a segment of population at high risks of Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) as a screening procedure at 1/4th the radiation dose as compared to other scanners in this league.

The department also provides a comprehensive Radiology service with digital X-ray, latest Ultrasound, Colour Doppler, Mammography and Dexa Scan.

A highly qualified and experienced team of radiologists is available 24/7 to support this service. On the International Day of Radiology Saket City Hospital is offering a discount on all radiology services.
