A recent analysis by Mahajan Imaging & Labs has revealed a concerning trend in men’s health, with nearly 46% of cardiac investigations conducted among men aged 30 years and above showing abnormal findings. The findings highlight a significant burden of undetected cardiovascular and metabolic health risks among working-age men and underscore the importance of preventive health screening.
The analysis reviewed nearly 78,000 diagnostic investigations conducted over a six-month period across cardiology, pathology, and radiology services. Of these, more than 13,000 investigations reported abnormal or critical findings, indicating that a large number of men may be living with underlying health conditions without experiencing obvious symptoms.
Apart from cardiac concerns, the study found that 27% of chest X-rays revealed abnormalities, while 2% of pathology investigations produced critical results requiring immediate medical attention. These findings reinforce the need for regular health assessments and timely risk evaluation.
Rising Cardiac Risks with Age
During the review period, Mahajan Imaging & Labs conducted 24,951 cardiac investigations among men aged 30 years and above. Electrocardiograms (ECGs) accounted for half of all cardiac tests, followed by echocardiography (38%), treadmill tests (7%), and combined TMT/ECHO evaluations (5%).
The analysis showed a clear increase in both screening uptake and positivity rates with age. Men aged 50 years and above accounted for 57% of all cardiac investigations, while those aged 30–40 years represented 25% and the 40–50 age group accounted for 18%.
Notably, the proportion of abnormal findings increased progressively with age. The positivity rate was 11% among men aged 30–40 years, rising to 15% in the 40–50 age group and reaching 20% among men aged 50 years and above.
Silent Health Conditions Often Go Undetected
Commenting on the findings, Padma Shri Dr. Harsh Mahajan, Founder & Chairman of Mahajan Imaging & Labs and Mentor, FICCI Health Services Committee, said that men frequently prioritise work and family commitments over their own well-being, allowing serious conditions to remain undiagnosed.
“Conditions such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, fatty liver disease, kidney disorders and nutritional deficiencies often develop silently and may not produce noticeable symptoms in their early stages. The high proportion of abnormal cardiac findings identified in this analysis highlights the importance of routine health screenings. Early detection enables timely intervention and can significantly reduce the risk of heart attacks, strokes and other long-term complications,” he said.
Lifestyle Factors Driving Health Risks
The findings come at a time when cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders are increasingly affecting younger and middle-aged adults in India. The analysis suggests that many men may be living with underlying heart-related conditions despite appearing healthy and symptom-free.
Healthcare experts point to modern lifestyle patterns—including long working hours, chronic stress, inadequate sleep, physical inactivity and poor dietary habits—as major contributors to rising health risks among men.
Dr. Amit Bhushan Sharma, Director & Unit Head, Interventional Cardiology, Paras Health, Gurugram, noted that many men seek medical attention only after symptoms emerge, by which time health conditions are often already well established.
“In clinical practice, we frequently encounter men presenting with advanced hypertension, coronary artery disease risk factors, fatty liver changes or metabolic abnormalities that have remained undetected for years. Routine preventive assessments help identify early physiological changes before they progress into disease. Abnormal lipid profiles, glucose dysregulation, vascular changes and incidental organ-level findings often serve as the first warning signs. Early intervention through lifestyle modification and medical management can significantly improve long-term health outcomes,” he explained.
Comprehensive Screening Essential
The analysis covered a broad spectrum of diagnostic assessments, including fasting blood sugar, HbA1c, lipid profile, liver and kidney function tests, thyroid profile, calcium levels, hemogram, vitamin D3 and vitamin B12 testing. Advanced cardiac evaluations such as ECG, echocardiography, treadmill testing, coronary calcium scoring and carotid intima-media thickness (Carotid IMT) assessments were also included.
These investigations help detect early signs of cardiovascular, metabolic and nutritional disorders that often remain unnoticed in their initial stages. The substantial proportion of abnormal chest X-ray findings further demonstrates the value of routine health evaluations in identifying hidden health concerns.

Prioritising Preventive Healthcare
Healthcare experts emphasise that preventive healthcare remains one of the most effective tools for reducing the burden of chronic diseases. Regular screenings can help identify risk factors early, allowing individuals to adopt corrective lifestyle measures, seek appropriate medical care and monitor their health more effectively.
Based on the findings, Mahajan Imaging & Labs recommends that men above the age of 30 undergo regular preventive health assessments and consult healthcare professionals to determine screening schedules tailored to their age, lifestyle, family history and individual risk factors.
As cardiovascular disease continues to emerge as a leading health challenge in India, the analysis serves as a timely reminder that proactive health monitoring may be the key to preventing serious medical events and improving long-term health outcomes among men.
