In a move to provide temporary relief to patients, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has asked private hospitals in the state to accept the old currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 which have been banned after the recent demonetisation move by the government.

Taking serious note of complaints that private hospitals are refusing to accept old notes from patients needing urgent medical attention, Fadnavis has instructed that if patients don’t have new currency notes, hospitals should be considerate and accept fees as per the convenience of patients, a statement issued from the Chief Minister’s Office said.

The patients can register their complaints on toll free numbers 104 and 108 besides approaching civic authorities if they reside within municipal limits.

Those living in rural areas can also register their complaints with the district health officer.

“If the grievances are still not addressed, then complaints can be made with Deputy Director of the concerned (administrative) divisions. Finally, Joint Director (Health) Dr B D Pawar can be contacted (for resolution of complaints),” the statement said.

If cheque of a patient is bounced, the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund will provide Rs 10,000 per patient, it added.
