Bengaluru-based Forus Health has launched FH eyepal, a portable digital eye clinic that packs vision screening, refraction and AI-supported retinal imaging into a single kit, so a full eye examination can be set up at a primary health centre, screening camp or patient’s home within minutes. The company announced the launch on 2 November 2026.

The product is aimed at one of the most persistent gaps in Indian eye care: most comprehensive eye examinations still happen in hospitals and specialist clinics, far from the rural and semi-urban populations that carry much of the burden of avoidable vision loss.

What the Forus Health FH eyepal digital eye clinic includes

According to the company, FH eyepal takes a patient from the first vision check to a spectacle prescription on one connected workflow. The kit brings together:

  • handheld vision screening
  • objective refraction with a handheld autorefractometer
  • subjective refraction through a digital wearable refractor
  • retinal imaging with a handheld fundus camera

The devices connect over Bluetooth, which Forus Health says keeps the workflow running in places where internet connectivity is patchy, a practical concern for outreach camps and rural health centres.

AI retinal analysis and a single patient record

Retinal images captured on the kit are analysed instantly by FH POISE, Forus Health’s proprietary artificial intelligence platform, to flag possible abnormalities and help clinicians decide who needs a referral. Every examination feeds into the company’s Digital Health Platform, which builds a unified digital record for each patient and manages the journey from refraction to spectacle delivery through its Telecare portal, allowing specialists to review cases remotely.

That combination of point-of-care screening and remote specialist review is the same model behind public programmes such as Andhra Pradesh’s AI pilot for diabetic retinopathy screening in government hospitals and earlier tele-ophthalmology efforts like the state’s Mukhyamantri e-Eye Kendram initiative.

Where Forus Health plans to deploy it

The company is positioning FH eyepal for primary healthcare centres, community health programmes, corporate wellness drives, vision camps and home-based care. “FH eyepal is far more than a collection of advanced imaging devices. It is a fully integrated digital eye care ecosystem that enables a complete eye clinic to be established virtually anywhere within minutes,” said K. Chandrasekhar, Co-Founder and CEO, Forus Health.

He added that the company wants to partner with eye hospitals, healthcare institutions and governments to take eye care “beyond hospital walls”, with faster deployment in primary care settings supporting earlier detection, timely referral and continuity of care.

Why portable eye screening matters for India

Uncorrected refractive error and retinal disease linked to diabetes are largely detectable with routine screening, but specialist equipment and trained staff are concentrated in cities. Portable, connected kits lower the cost of setting up a screening point and let a smaller pool of ophthalmologists review far more patients. Private providers are moving in the same direction, from Sharp Sight’s technology-led standardisation of eye care to AI-enabled point-of-care screening for diabetic complications.

Forus Health is best known for its 3nethra range of ophthalmic imaging devices, which the company says are deployed in more than 85 countries, and works on AI diagnostics, tele-ophthalmology and oculomics. More details on the new kit are on the Forus Health FH eyepal product page.
