P&G Health & IMA Launch First-Ever Patient Recovery Guidelines

Strengthening post-illness care in India, Procter & Gamble Health Limited has partnered with the Indian Medical Association to introduce the country’s first structured, evidence-based Patient Recovery Guidelines for clinicians. Titled “Clinical Application of Micronutrients in Recovery,” the guidebook aims to standardize recovery protocols and embed nutritional science into mainstream clinical practice.

Designed for the B2B healthcare ecosystem, including physicians, hospital administrators, and clinical decision-makers, the guidelines present a practical framework for integrating micronutrients into recovery pathways across acute, chronic, surgical, and paediatric care settings.

Addressing a Critical Gap in Recovery Protocols

While treatment protocols for diseases are well-established, recovery management often lacks standardized guidance, particularly in the Indian context. The newly launched guidelines aim to bridge this gap by offering clinicians structured, evidence-backed recommendations on the role of micronutrients in accelerating patient recovery.

Developed and reviewed by a multidisciplinary panel of medical experts, the guide emphasizes the role of micronutrients, especially B-complex vitamins, in supporting key physiological processes such as:

  • Inflammation resolution
  • Tissue repair and regeneration
  • Immune system modulation
  • Oxidative stress management

These mechanisms are critical across a wide spectrum of conditions, from infectious diseases like flu, diarrhea, malaria, and dengue to chronic illnesses, surgical recovery, and pediatric care.

A Holistic Approach to Recovery

The guidelines underscore that while pharmacological interventions remain central to treatment, optimal recovery outcomes depend heavily on the body’s ability to restore balance and rebuild. By integrating micronutrient support into clinical pathways, healthcare providers can enable faster and more resilient recovery trajectories.

In acute conditions, micronutrients are positioned as enablers of immune resilience and metabolic restoration. In chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, and liver conditions, targeted nutritional support is highlighted for its potential to enhance metabolic efficiency and long-term recovery outcomes.

Industry and Clinical Leadership Speak

Milind Thatte, Managing Director, Procter & Gamble Health Limited said,
“At P&G Health, we are committed to advancing patient-centered healthcare. For this, we continue to partner with the medical community to bring evidence-based solutions that support better health outcomes and make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients. We understand that while there is growing awareness on the role of micronutrients in recovery following illnesses, infections and surgeries, there is limited information on how these can be effectively used especially for Indian patients.
Recognizing this unmet need for a comprehensive, evidence-based guidance on optimizing recovery by leveraging micronutrients, P&G Health in collaboration with the Indian Medical Association, is delighted to launch ‘India’s First Patient Recovery Guidelines’ for doctors. The recovery guidelines will empower clinicians with a practical tool that can significantly improve patient outcomes, helping individuals return to their full health and vitality faster.”

Dr. Anilkumar J. Nayak, National President, Indian Medical Association said,
“The Indian medical community has long sought a unified, evidence-based approach to nutritional support during patient recovery. Emerging scientific evidence highlights the critical role of B-complex vitamins and other micronutrients in supporting key physiological processes involved in recovery. Imagine recovering quicker from an infection, a fracture, or even a major surgery. These recovery guidelines highlight these specific roles of various micronutrients and aim to equip doctors with precise tools to enhance energy metabolism, nerve function, immune response, and tissue repair. By combining scientific evidence and practical recommendations, the guidelines will help physicians integrate micronutrient support into patient recovery pathways, enabling a more holistic approach to care.”

For India’s Growing Healthcare Ecosystem

The launch signals a broader shift toward integrated, patient-centric care models in India, where nutrition, recovery science, and clinical medicine intersect. For healthcare providers and institutions, the guidelines offer an opportunity to standardize recovery protocols, improve patient outcomes, and potentially reduce recovery times and hospital readmissions.
The complete guidelines have been made accessible to clinicians through the IMA’s official platform, enabling widespread adoption across India’s healthcare network.

For healthcare leaders, this development reinforces the growing importance of evidence-based nutrition as a critical pillar in the continuum of care, beyond diagnosis and treatment, toward complete recovery.
