The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Corcept Therapeutics’ relacorilant for the treatment of platinum-resistant epithelial ovarian cancer.
The drug is approved for use in combination with nab-paclitaxel in adult patients whose disease has progressed following platinum-based chemotherapy.
Relacorilant is a selective glucocorticoid receptor antagonist designed to modulate cortisol activity.
The approval was based on data from a late-stage clinical trial involving 381 patients, which showed improved outcomes in patients receiving relacorilant in combination with chemotherapy compared to chemotherapy alone.
The therapy will be made available in the United States following the approval.
Relacorilant carries safety warnings including risks related to low white blood cell counts, infections, and adrenal insufficiency, and is not indicated for use in patients dependent on steroid medications.
