Gujarat’s Health Minister Shri Rushikesh Patel inaugurated the Varian TrueBeam 3.0 Radiotherapy System at Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad. The cutting-edge system, among the most advanced linear accelerators (LINAC) globally, is designed to deliver highly precise external beam radiotherapy for cancer patients.

The event was attended by Apollo’s oncology specialists, including the radiation oncology team, senior consultants, and hospital leadership.

The Varian TrueBeam 3.0 enables treatment with sub-millimetre accuracy, combining high-energy X-rays with advanced imaging to target tumours while preserving healthy tissues. Patients benefit from faster sessions, fewer side effects, and improved outcomes, making it a transformative addition to Gujarat’s cancer care ecosystem.

Speaking at the inauguration, Shri Patel remarked, “Ahmedabad has become a preferred destination for advanced healthcare, attracting patients not just from Gujarat but also neighbouring regions. Facilities like this reinforce the city’s reputation as a hub for world-class treatment and offer new hope to cancer patients.”

Apollo Hospitals, Ahmedabad CEO, Cdr Jelson Kavalakkat, highlighted the institution’s commitment to inclusive healthcare. He said, “We continue to work closely with the Gujarat government to ensure that financial constraints never deny patients access to cancer care. With the addition of TrueBeam 3.0, Apollo is bringing precision, efficiency, and global-standard therapies closer to home.”

Adding a clinical perspective, Dr J. P. Neema, Head of Radiation Oncology, said the system’s speed and imaging capabilities make treatments smoother for patients. “Shorter sessions allow patients to continue their daily routines with minimal disruption. The platform also supports whole-body radiation, essential for certain blood cancers.”

Dr Vivek Bansal, Senior Consultant, emphasised the technology’s accuracy in treating moving targets such as lung, breast, and prostate cancers. “TrueBeam’s motion management software helps protect normal tissues, thereby reducing side effects. Treatments that earlier spanned six weeks can now be completed within one to two weeks,” he explained.

Dr Chirag Amin, Consultant, added that the system enhances personalisation of therapy. “It aligns cancer care in Gujarat with global standards, equipping us to manage even the most complex cases more effectively.”
