Apollo Hospitals has appointed Upasana Kamineni Konidela as Director – Projects, assigning her a key role in the planning and delivery of the healthcare group’s hospital projects as it advances an estimated ₹8,600-crore expansion programme across India.

In her new role, Kamineni Konidela will work closely with Apollo’s leadership, clinical teams and project partners on the development of new hospitals, expansion of existing facilities and upgrades of current hospital infrastructure. Her mandate will also include strengthening project processes and coordination from the design stage through commissioning.

The appointment was announced by Preetha Reddy, Executive Vice Chairperson, Apollo Hospitals, who welcomed Kamineni Konidela into the new role and highlighted her experience across healthcare, preventive health and community initiatives, as well as her involvement in bringing Apollo’s 400-bed hospital in Hyderabad’s Financial District to life.

A key focus of the new role will be to integrate patient-centric design and functionality into Apollo’s expanding hospital network. This includes clearer signage and wayfinding, simpler navigation, efficient clinical spaces and improved comfort for patients and their families.

Apollo’s current expansion programme has an estimated project cost of approximately ₹8,600 crore, including around ₹1,565 crore allocated towards listed brownfield expansion projects at existing facilities. The broader programme includes strengthening capacity in established markets as well as developing facilities in growing urban centres.

The group’s expansion plans span multiple major markets, including Hyderabad, Delhi-NCR, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Varanasi, Indore, Guwahati and Ranchi, according to current reporting on the programme.

Kamineni Konidela has been associated with Apollo’s healthcare and social-impact initiatives and has previously served as Vice Chairperson of CSR at Apollo Hospitals. Apollo’s annual report also documents her involvement in the group’s community health initiatives.

The appointment comes as Apollo continues to expand its physical healthcare footprint while placing greater emphasis on technology-enabled care, patient experience and modern hospital infrastructure. The group recently opened its 76th hospital in Hyderabad’s Financial District, a 400-bed facility described by Apollo as a next-generation smart hospital incorporating AI and digital integration.

Commenting on her new responsibility, Kamineni Konidela said the role would allow her to contribute to the vision established by her grandfather and Apollo founder Dr Prathap C. Reddy, particularly the objective of making world-class healthcare more accessible. She also emphasised the role of hospital design in helping patients navigate facilities more easily while enabling doctors and care teams to deliver care effectively.

With Apollo undertaking a significant expansion of its hospital network, the Projects function will play an important role in translating planned investments into new capacity, upgraded facilities and patient-focused healthcare environments across India.
