Apollo Home Healthcare

Apollo Home Healthcare has launched its Integrated Palliative Care at Home initiative in Delhi, in collaboration with Apollo Indraprastha Hospital. The program is designed to deliver hospital-grade, end-of-life care services directly to patients’ homes, with a holistic approach that prioritizes comfort, dignity, and family support.

Palliative care, essential for patients battling chronic and terminal illnesses like cancer, advanced organ failure, and neurological disorders, remains critically underpenetrated in India. Of the estimated 5.4 million Indians needing such care annually, only a fraction currently have access to it. Apollo’s latest offering aims to close this gap by making structured, compassionate care more accessible and continuous outside hospital environments.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Sushma Bhatnagar, Pain and Palliative Care Consultant at Apollo Indraprastha Hospital, emphasized, “Care becomes transformative when delivered in the patient’s own space. This program brings clinical expertise, emotional support, and spiritual healing directly to where patients feel most at ease—at home.”

The home-based model is anchored in a multidisciplinary approach, with services including:

  • Customized care plans for patients with terminal or serious illnesses
  • Medical and pain management supervised by experienced clinicians
  • Psychosocial and spiritual counselling for patients and caregivers
  • Regular in-home visits and remote consultations from a trained care team

The initiative is poised to reduce avoidable hospital admissions and ICU dependency, optimizing both healthcare resources and patient wellbeing.

Dr. Sai Kumar, Head – Medical Services at Apollo Home Healthcare, noted, “Our objective is to redefine palliative care by integrating hospital-level support into home settings. This not only alleviates patient suffering but also provides families the strength and structure to care with confidence.”

In addition to Delhi, the program will soon be operational at Apollo Athenaa—a newly launched specialized cancer care facility for women—and will gradually extend to other major metros and tier-2 cities.

Vishal Lathwal, CEO, Apollo Home Healthcare, stated, “As India grapples with a shifting disease burden, care delivery must evolve. Our palliative care model prioritizes empathy, accessibility, and cost-efficiency. It prepares caregivers, reduces hospital dependency, and ensures every patient receives personalized, dignified care.”

The initiative also integrates advanced digital tools, including remote monitoring systems, AI-powered alerts, and predictive health models, to enable timely clinical interventions. Apollo is further pushing for policy reforms that integrate palliative care within insurance and public health programs, and is committed to raising awareness around early adoption and de-stigmatization of palliative services.
