Ambuja Neotia Group has inaugurated its flagship Neotia Bhagirathi Women and Child Care Centre in Guwahati, marking its maiden venture outside West Bengal. With a capital investment of Rs 80 crore, this 100-bed super-speciality hospital is poised to redefine maternal and pediatric care delivery in the Northeast, offering advanced reproductive, neonatal, and pediatric services under one roof.

A Major Private Sector Milestone for Assam’s Healthcare

The hospital, officially opened by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on June 6, 2025, represents a strategic shift toward greater public-private collaboration in healthcare. At a time when the state government is heavily investing in public medical infrastructure, including plans to establish 24 medical colleges by 2029, the launch of this facility reinforces the importance of specialised private healthcare interventions to meet escalating patient demand.

“This is our first centre outside Bengal, and we are delighted to begin this journey in Assam,” said Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman of the Ambuja Neotia Group, during the launch. “The focus of this hospital is exclusively on women and children, with specialised services in reproductive medicine, IVF, postnatal care, and neonatology.”

Parthiv Neotia, Executive Director, Ambuja Neotia Healthcare Venture Limited, stated, “We are proud to announce the launch of the Neotia Bhagirathi Woman and Child Care Centre in Guwahati, marking a significant operational milestone in our expansion and presence in the North-East.”

Tailored Healthcare Services for the Region’s Unique Needs

Unlike general hospitals, the Neotia Bhagirathi facility is designed to exclusively cater to women and children, addressing a critical gap in specialised healthcare services in the region. The hospital features advanced infrastructure to support key services including IVF, fertility treatment, maternal care, neonatology, paediatrics, and postnatal recovery.

Genome – The Fertility Centre, an integral unit within the facility, will deliver state-of-the-art reproductive medicine and IVF services, empowering couples across the Northeast to access high-end fertility treatments locally, without the need to travel to metropolitan cities like Delhi, Mumbai, or Kolkata.

Job Creation and Regional Impact

The hospital is expected to create over 250 direct jobs, including roles for approximately 50 medical professionals. More importantly, its operational scope extends beyond Assam, with the potential to serve patients from other northeastern states and neighbouring ASEAN countries.

Speaking on the broader group strategy, Harshavardhan Neotia, Chairman of the Ambuja Neotia Group, added, “Our core areas of focus include healthcare, real estate, hospitality, and education. While most of our operations have been in West Bengal, we’ve expanded into North Bengal and Sikkim, and this hospital represents a major milestone in our journey of growth in the Northeast.”

Government Backing and Policy Synergy

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the hospital as a timely and crucial private sector initiative. “We are building a robust public healthcare infrastructure—24 medical colleges, a 5,000-bed GMCH super-speciality expansion, and more—but we still face a supply-demand imbalance, especially in specialised care. Facilities like this hospital help us bridge that gap,” he stated.

The Assam Government’s Budget 2025–26 reinforces this direction, with Rs 5,393 crore allocated to the Health and Family Welfare Department and an additional Rs 4,449 crore towards Women and Child Development. The focus on maternal and pediatric care across both public and private sectors signals a policy convergence aimed at addressing high-priority healthcare needs.

A Template for Tier-II City Healthcare Expansion

The Guwahati project is part of a broader trend wherein Tier-II cities, especially in the Northeast, are gaining prominence in the strategic roadmap of private healthcare players. With public infrastructure expanding, private investments like this are expected to complement government efforts by delivering advanced technology, operational efficiencies, and focused expertise in niche medical domains.

“This is not a general hospital—it is a centre of excellence for reproductive and neonatal health,” Neotia stressed, underlining the group’s differentiated care model.

A Healthcare Ecosystem Maturing Through Synergy

The launch of Neotia Bhagirathi Women and Child Care Centre is more than just a business expansion—it is a symbol of Assam’s evolving healthcare ecosystem. It blends the scale of public infrastructure with the depth and precision of private sector innovation. For industry stakeholders, the project provides a replicable model of how region-specific, specialised healthcare ventures can successfully plug service gaps, stimulate employment, and enhance medical access in underserved geographies.

As Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma aptly concluded, “This launch is a new benchmark for women and children’s healthcare in Assam. The government will extend all necessary support to ensure its success and future growth.”
