In response to the rising number of dengue cases, Uttar Pradesh’s Urban Development Minister, AK Sharma, chaired a high-level meeting on Thursday to discuss strategies for enhancing public awareness and controlling the spread of the disease. The minister emphasized the importance of immediate action to prevent mosquito breeding by addressing water stagnation issues across urban areas.
The meeting was held as part of the state’s Dastak campaign, which focuses on raising awareness and promoting preventive measures to combat vector-borne diseases. Sharma urged local bodies to work proactively by identifying and addressing high-risk zones, ensuring waterlogged areas are cleaned, and implementing mosquito control measures in a mission mode.
Amrit Abhijat, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department, reinforced the need for collective action, emphasizing the responsibility of officials to engage the public actively. He recommended setting up dedicated teams to oversee sanitation efforts and monitor anti-mosquito activities to ensure timely intervention.
During the session, municipal commissioners and executive officers provided progress updates on their dengue control initiatives. Health department officials were directed to carry out regular fogging operations, anti-larval treatments, and ensure early detection and timely medical intervention to manage dengue cases efficiently.
The meeting, which included key officials such as Anuj Kumar Jha, Director of Urban Local Bodies, and Dr. Pankaj Kumar, Joint Director of the Health Department, highlighted the importance of continuous public engagement to maintain hygiene and reduce mosquito-breeding hotspots.
Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Lucknow has issued a circular calling for a sensitization meeting with Resident Welfare Association (RWA) presidents and office-bearers on Friday. The meeting aims to educate community leaders on effective preventive measures to curb the spread of vector-borne diseases during the peak season.
With 64 new dengue cases reported in Lucknow, the total number of cases this year has climbed to 1,312. Additionally, the CMO’s office confirmed one new case of malaria and chikungunya each, further emphasizing the need for comprehensive control efforts.
As dengue, malaria, and chikungunya cases continue to rise, the authorities are committed to strengthening preventive measures and public outreach, aiming to ensure a healthier and safer environment for all residents.
