Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health

In a recent development, Dr Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, emphasized the continuous effort to strengthen India’s healthcare systems, ensuring their resilience in the face of pandemics. He spoke during the inauguration of various health infrastructure projects in Guwahati, Assam, under the Pradhan Mantri- Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), National Health Mission (NHM), and XV Finance Commission Health Grants. The event was graced by the presence of Shri. Keshab Mahanta, the State Health Minister of Assam, and Shri Rameshwar Teli, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Labour and Employment, who joined virtually.

Dr Mandaviya reiterated Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision, highlighting that a healthy society is the cornerstone of a prosperous nation. India is diligently working towards creating a robust ecosystem that leverages its human resources to build resilient healthcare systems capable of addressing health emergencies. This dedication led to the inception of PM-ABHIM.


During his address, Dr Mandaviya commended Assam’s healthcare development initiatives and stressed the importance of making healthcare affordable and accessible through comprehensive infrastructure development. He also emphasized the significance of research and development and initiatives such as “Heal in India, Heal by India.” Furthermore, the Union Minister stressed the need for integration at various levels of healthcare infrastructure to monitor the emergence of new variants and diseases.

Dr Mandaviya celebrated the growth of medical, dental, and nursing colleges in Assam, marking a milestone in strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring quality healthcare reaches every citizen.

The projects inaugurated and initiated include:


Foundation Stone Laying for:

  • 50 Bedded Critical Care Block at Lakhimpur Medical College under PM-ABHIM
  • Block Primary Health Units at various locations under PM-ABHIM
  • Integrated Public Health Laboratory at Jakhalabandha SDHC under PM-ABHIM
  • Sasoni Community Health Centre under XV-FC Health Grants

Inauguration of Projects:

  • Upgradation of healthcare facilities in various locations
  • Community Health Centre and Residential Quarters development in different districts
  • Strengthening of healthcare centers in different regions

Dr Mandaviya highlighted the uniqueness of India’s healthcare system, tailored to its needs, strengths, and abilities. He explained the four-tier healthcare system that spans from grassroots to tertiary care, including the vast network of Health and Wellness Centres, which connect underserved populations with higher-level consultations, making healthcare more accessible and affordable.

In his keynote address at the Amrit Kaal Vimarsh Viksit Bharat @2047, the Union Health Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering youth and encouraged them to innovate and contribute to building a healthier nation. He also emphasized that India’s vision for healthcare extends globally, offering opportunities for the skilled health workforce to pursue international careers.
