AIIMS Delhi building

In an effort to enhance efficiency and transparency in the procurement process, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) will introduce a centralised procurement system. Currently, AIIMS operates under a decentralised procurement structure, where individual departments and stores handle their respective procurements based on demand. AIIMS Director, Dr M Srinivas, stated that establishing a centralised nodal point for procurement will facilitate coordination among different stores and departments involved in procuring various items.

To implement the centralised procurement system, a pool of faculty members will be nominated by the heads of various departments, including the Department of Hospital Administration and clinical departments. A roster will be created to rotate the positions of procurement in charge (procurement) and officer in charge (OIC-procurement) annually over the next five years. The OIC-procurement will be a clinical department faculty member at the rank of professor or additional professor, providing valuable clinical perspectives. On the other hand, the procurement officer will be a faculty member from the Department of Hospital Administration at the rank of professor or additional professor. This individual will serve as the nodal point for all procurement-related matters within the institute, offering administrative and procedural insights.

The primary goal of this initiative is to streamline the procurement process, enhance efficiency, and ensure transparency, according to Dr Srinivas, AIIMS Director.
