Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, gave the opening remarks during today’s closing session of the 2nd G20 Health Working Group Meeting. The Union Health and Family Welfare Minister thanked all the delegates from G20 member states, invited countries, and international organisations for aligning their priorities with India’s proposed health priorities and said, “As G20 Health Working Group, we are heading in the right direction towards jointly creating a positive impact for future Global Health Architecture.”

Dr. Mandaviya emphasised the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on healthcare systems worldwide and said, “It is essential for us to collectively break the cycle of panic and neglect and not let the phenomenon of pandemic fatigue diminish our ongoing efforts on pandemic preparedness, prevention, and response.” Additionally, he said that “India’s G20 Presidency plans to continue the momentum brought about during Italy and Indonesian Presidency and consolidate the efforts made so far towards health emergencies preparedness, prevention, and response.”


Dr. Mandaviya further emphasised the necessity of a formal international coordination system for medical countermeasures and the significance of coordinating and unifying activities on the MCM Agenda. He also pointed out that India had put forth the agenda of digital health and innovation in order to encourage the use of technology in the provision of healthcare services, close the global digital divide, and advance digital public goods.
