The workshop aimed to increase the capacity building of healthcare professionals for patient safety, inform states and various stakeholder departments about their roles in implementing the National Patient Safety Implementation Framework, and layout frameworks for creating quarterly state action plans on patient safety.

The National Patient Safety Implementation Framework (NPSIF), which unifies numerous strategies and initiatives of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, including the National Health Mission, Clinical Establishment Act, Adverse Event Following Immunisation (AEFI), Pharmacovigilance Programme, and Hemovigilance under a single comprehensive policy framework, was implemented in 2018 with the goal of enhancing patient safety. This broadened these programmes’ audience and influence.

According to her, 175 new medical colleges have been constructed, increasing the number of seats available for MBBS and PG programmes in medical schools by 95% and 110%, respectively. This would help India’s capacity for both education and research.
