Tamil Nadu has earmarked ₹23,357 crore for healthcare in its 2026–27 Budget, with a strong focus on strengthening digital health, specialist medical services, cancer care, maternal healthcare and elderly care across the state.

A key highlight is the planned rollout of a statewide telemedicine network, which will initially connect 200 government healthcare facilities with specialist hubs. The initiative aims to improve access to specialist consultations, particularly for communities in rural and underserved areas.

The state also plans to establish five zonal cancer hospitals and introduce 1,000 mobile geriatric treatment units to bring specialised and elderly care services closer to communities.

The healthcare allocation reflects Tamil Nadu’s growing focus on technology-enabled and decentralised healthcare delivery. The initiatives underline the role of digital health and technology in expanding specialist healthcare access while supporting more equitable healthcare delivery across Tamil Nadu.
