CDMO and critical injectables drive growth

The CDMO business contributed 45% of quarterly revenue and grew 31% year-on-year, while the critical injectables business, covering B2B and B2C sales, made up the remaining 55% and grew 18%. Contract manufacturing has become a key growth engine for Indian drugmakers this earnings season, as seen in Akums’ Q2 FY27 CDMO performance.

“We delivered another quarter of strong growth, with revenue increasing 23% year-on-year and profit after tax growing 58% year-on-year, driven by strong execution across our businesses,” said Srinivas Sadu, Executive Chairman of Gland Pharma. He added that the CDMO business was “supported by expanding customer engagements, strategic partnerships and a robust opportunity pipeline.”

US market leads the geographic mix

The United States remained Gland’s largest market, with revenue of about ₹1,180 crore in the quarter, up 42% year-on-year, according to the company’s earnings call disclosures. Europe and other regulated markets grew 23% to about ₹411 crore, while Rest of World sales were affected by a tender delay in Saudi Arabia. During the quarter the company filed 11 ANDAs, received 10 approvals and made four US launches, building on approvals such as its USFDA nod for generic Depo-Medrol injection.

Its European subsidiary Cenexi posted revenue of about EUR 41 million but a negative EBITDA of EUR 6 million because of planned annual shutdowns; management expects it to turn profitable from the third quarter.

Capacity expansion and cash position

Gland said its ₹2,000 crore capacity expansion programme remains on track, including a roughly ₹1,000 crore brownfield expansion at Pashamylaram expected to begin commercial operations in FY30. The company held cash and cash equivalents of about ₹3,441 crore as of 30 September 2026, with a net cash position of about ₹3,222 crore.

The results add to a strong set of Q2 FY27 numbers from Indian pharma companies, including Aurobindo Pharma’s record quarterly revenue and Granules India’s 39% profit rise.
