Health is an integral need of every human being on this planet. A surmounting challenge of lifestyle and chronic diseases is staring us all in our faces. Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) like cancer, diabetes, asthma, and cardiac ailments are at an all-time high. According to one estimate, NCDs cause 38 million deaths every year. In India alone, 6 million people die annually due to NCDs. It is high time for the world to address the rising threat of such diseases as well as the cost involved in medicare. The pandemic has shown the world how critical it is for every country to have an impeccable and affordable health care ecosystem.
On this Ayurveda Day 2021, it is imperative for every health organization, government, or society to reassess the measures being taken and to meditate whether they would suffice in accomplishing the overall health and happiness of the people. Modern medicine system is highly expensive and unaffordable for a large population, especially in third world countries. In such a scenario, even if accessibility and costs are improved to a certain degree, the real health crisis remains unresolved. It is time for all the health organizations of the world to look eastward. It is time to think about Ayurveda. India has all the reasons to unlock the potential of our ancient wisdom for the world and lead global healthcare with the modern avatar of Ayurveda.
Ayurveda is the oldest system of medicine and health science dating back to more than 3,500 years. It is a holistic and preventive medical science. No medicine system understands the body and mind with so much depth and completely as Ayurveda does. Its natural herbs-based treatment approach and therapies can cure any disease. This medicine system is so deep that just by following the right Ayurvedic advice on lifestyle and diet, one can stay healthy by minimizing the vulnerability to diseases. Ayurveda is also the only comprehensive answer to even the most serious of chronic diseases and every Ayurveda practitioner is a proof and witness of the health miracles this age-old medical science has accomplished.
From minor illnesses to severe health issues, Ayurveda is more appropriate and affordable as a primary health care choice. India has many success stories and evidence to indicate how effective Ayurvedic treatment is. The healthcare industry is witnessing a new trend among people who are now turning to alternative medicines for optimal cure and relief and Ayurveda is one of them.
The current pandemic has imposed and exposed serious healthcare challenges across the world. Several experts worldwide agreed that no single medicine system alone would be able to help contain the pandemic or any such health crisis in future. We need to increase the reach of ayurvedic medicines, build a trustworthy network for doctors and mainstream Ayurvedic healthcare solutions in a post-Covid environment to create a robust health care ecosystem for the world with its roots in ancient wisdom, nature and sustainability.
